Can you mix a latex enamel paint with latex semi-gloss paint to change the color?

I need to lighten the color of my latex enamel paint and I have some light latex semi gloss. Can you mix a latex enamel paint with latex semi-gloss paint to change the color?
No no no.

Different paints use different chemicals to give the paint different properties. Some of these chemicals are not compatible, so you may end up with something useless. Worse yet, it may look fine in the bucket but not dry properly, or maybe peel off after it is dry.

Depending upon where you bought the paint, you may be able to take it back to them and ask them to add some KX (white) colorant to it, which will lighten it without any problems.

Having said that, if you happened to have two cans of the same kind of paint (same manufacturer, same product number), you can safely mix them to blend the color.

On another note, I feel compelled to point out that enamel can be any kind of paint -- latex, oil, or otherwise. Enamel means a paint with a hard finish. Nothing more, nothing less. Can you mix a latex enamel paint with latex semi-gloss paint to change the color?
as long as both are latex... they will mix
yeah...but it 'll be a bit less glossy thats all.
Is it latex or enamel? Latex is water based and enamel is oil based. As long as they are both water soluable you can mix them together.
I don't think that works. My mom once tried mixing two colors of yellow together, cause she had some of each, but not enough to paint our entire room. One was enamel, the other semi-gloss. Well we ended up with splotchy yellow. It kinda looked neat, like we did it on purpose. The two colors did not mix together.
I wouldn't think so. Youv'e got two different types of paint. But why don't you try a bit and see?The only thing is Enamel paint does a particular job,and is waterproof, and your semi-gloss is not.
if they are both latex then yes
