Is Enamel paint the same as oil paint?

i have gone to the hardware store a number of times but cant find any oil paint. They have lots of enamel gloss paint, in the rust paint section. Are they the same as oil paints. Would killrust be a good choice for a thin paint? Is Enamel paint the same as oil paint?
they are not the same. Enamel paint can be found at hardware store and is widely used as coat paint to prevent metal from rusting while oil paint are widely use by an artist in a canvass. Enamel paint though can be used as a substitute to oil paint in canvass but its hard to manage compared to oil paint which can be diluted with linseed oil to express degrees of thickness and mood.Is Enamel paint the same as oil paint?
Very rare to find oil base paints any more because of environmental, and health hazzards. Most people find that enamel of oil base type is quite popular, because of the degree of brightness and color fastness it gives. Soon even oil base enamel will be a thing of the past, once again having to do with the oil base encaustic. Be very weary though, as some people believe you can use a water base enamel for over painting on older oil base paint. Over the course of time this will eventually crack, or peel because some oil base layers are non-porous. I have seen this in some instances! Oh and please remember.... Oil and Water dont mix! dont thin water based used brushes with spirits, or thinner!!!! I have often experienced this with people i have worked with! Same thing the other way around too.....
I've been a house painter for many years and found that the oil base paints are slowly disappearing from the shelves, Because of the new E.P.A. laws, that keep changing through the years. Enamel paint used to be in oil base and also in latex which is a water base.Enamel which is a high gloss and semi that a has a lower shine is still is about the only thing you can buy right now. Try and stay with paints by Benjamin Moore because they have every paint for what ever your need is. If you look hard enough, you may be lucky and if a store that still has some oil sitting on the shelve. I think you can by oil base in a spray can but not so much in qt.s or gal. cans..
No; go to an art supply store or look on line. Pearl, or Dick Blick both have good prices and a wide variety.

Do you want to paint pictures, or walls? If it's walls, you might want to post under ';Home and Garden';, ';maintainance and repairs';.
enamel paint is like latex n oil based has a glossy finish and oil paints are different they have a bit of oil in it and are used by the artists for oil painting
Enamel can be oil or latex, or even waterborne. It should say which on the can.

Can I ask what you are planing to paint?
no--it is different
no
